W C “Dub” Settlemires

W.C. “Dub” Settlemires, age 79, of Walnut passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family members and a host of friends. 

A celebration of life will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Walnut with visitation on May 14th beginning at  5pm, with funeral on May 15th with visitation beginning at 11am until service at 1pm. 

W.C. was born to Cecil and Elvie (Flake)  Settlemires on January 31, 1945.

Mr. Settlemires retired from the family logging and sawmill business. He also retired from the Alcorn County 5th district as a truck driver. After retirement, W.C. enjoyed cooking fish, tending to his yard, garden, and flowers, and spending time with his family. He was a long-time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as an usher.  

He is survived by his wife of 57 years,Laura Mills Settlemires and their two children; daughter Karen Settlemires Null (Jeff) and son Keith Settlemires (Abby). W.C. leaves behind 5 grandchildren; Carington Walls (Eryn), Katie Walls, Emy Settlemires, Ali Settlemires Perry (Tate), and Jaxin Settlemires. Together, Laura and W.C. have two great-grandchildren, Stella Watson and Coleman Walls. One brother, Ray Settlemires (Faye) and three sisters Betty Settlemires Derrick, Joann Settlemires Mills, and Pam Settlemires Moss (David), and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Elvie Settlemires, two  brother-in-laws Mancel Mills and Autry Derrick. 

Pallbearers are Carington Walls, Jaxin Settlemires, Donnie Settlemires, Stevie Settlemires, Brad Moss, and Brandon Mills. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandchildren, Haley Dooley, and Emma Fiveash.
