When You Want the Best

Joyce Layman

Ms Joyce Marie Layman Hatley was born in a farmhouse in Hatchie Bottom, MS, on March 01, 1946, to WL (Buster) and Christine Wooley. She was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on January 29, 2025.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 23 years Ricky Hatley; her son, Todd Layman (Julie), bonus daughters, Kristi Mathews (Doug), and Lori Robinson (John); grandchildren Brandon, Miranda, Kelsie, Shawn, and Dylan; great-grandchildren  Jayce, Cooper, Carter, Ariyaa, Ayda, and Bryson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce is also survived by her brothers Bobby Wolley (Janna) and Joe Wooley (Dora), sister Jayne Shawley (Dave), and aunt and uncle Dade and Monk Stewart of Rienzi, MS.

Joyce married Charles Layman in 1963; he passes away in 1999. In 2002 she found love again with Ricky Hatley.

Joyce was generous to a fault, giving anything she had to make life better for others. She was full of life, love and energy, and used these attributes in all she did.

She worked as a bookkeeper, owned her own clothing store, made Jewelry and clothing, and traveled the US selling at arts and crafts shows. Joyce was definitely an entrepreneur at heart. Joyce was active in Bethel Baptist church, organizing Samaritan’s Purse Christmas shoe boxes for many years. She was an active member of Lea County Republican Women and Lea County Women’s Network. She loved going to the casino, jewelry making, sewing, politics, and playing jokes on people. In her younger years, she made a dress one morning and wore it to work that same day. Joyce’s favorite title was that of being Mimi to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a service Saturday February 08, 2025, at 10:00AM, Lebanon Church in Rienzi, MS. Burial will follow in the church cemetery

The Corinthian Funeral Home is honored to serve the Layman family.
