Mr. James “Jim” Larvis Baker, 83,passed awayat Tishomingo Living Center on April 11, 2026. Services will take place 3:00 PM, April18, 2026 at Corinthian Funeral Homewith Bros. Frank Williams, Benny Baker, and Andrew Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 1;00 pm until service time at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Liberty Church of Christ Cemetery.
Jim was born in Corinth, Mississippi on October 09, 1942 to Irvin Larvis Baker and Mary Jewel Berry Baker Wilson. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Corinth High School in 1960. He attended the University of Mississippi “Ole Miss” and graduated in 1964. Mr. Baker was a proud member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
He was a national sales manager for Proctor and Gamble, and started the supermarket division for Polaroid. He was a founder of Master Marketing Corporation in 1974, Jim was the founder , president and owner of Cherokee Trading Company since 1979. Served the poultry industry for decades, and was a strong advocate for USA exports and past member of USAPEEC. In retirement he continued as an international Commodity Consultant.
Jim was active in the community, arts and clubs: Past President of arts council in Conyers, Georgiia 23 year bass singer, Georgia Choral Guilds Rotary Club in Conyers, Georgia Served arts council of Corinth, MS Past Board of Corinth Symphony Oak Hill Christian Church Choir Served in numerous church choirs through his life Numerous golf clubs
He loved the Corinth Courthouse Pickers (a weekly patron)and a loved the local music community.
A devoted and competitive weekly bridge player, Tupelo
Church memberships through the years: Mount Carmel Christian, Bethel Christian, and Conyers Christian churches in Georgia. Oak Hill Christian Church in Mississippi.
He loved debating current events, watching football – Ole Miss of course, quoting history and trivia, golf, songwriting, making “kick lines”, southern gospel, the Gaithers, bluegrass, all things Native American, old-school arithmetic!, grammar, Bible history, the color pink, his children, and grandsons, Church choirs, the performing arts, running errands, driving the “back way”, laughter, lots of laughter, and most of all his beloved friends and family. He loved many and many loved him.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his Parents, Son: Forrest Baker, Daughter: Stacie Christine Baker Nipps, Step-Father: Perry Wilson.
Those left to cherish his memory are Daughters: Kimberly Morris (Ryan) of Conyers, Georgia, Rachel Baker (Ashley Short) of Covington, Georgia, Brothers: Benny Baker (Donna) of Searcy, Arkansas, Dwight Wilson (Sarah) of Corinth, Mississippi, Grandchildren: Jason Morris, Dylan Morris, and Connor Morris.
